AVERAGEIF FUNCTION

AVERAGEIF() Function is same as the Microsoft Excel's basic function Average. 

There is a slight change that AVERAGEIF function is used to count/calculate the average based on the given arguments/criteria meets.

    


Syntax of AVERAGEIF function:

=AVERAGEIF(cell_range, "criteria/arguments", average_range)

  • Cell range which contains numeric data
  • crititeria or condition on which have to find the average
  • average_range - This is optional. It is used when you want to get the return value on secondary basis on the condition of first cell range.


Let's get started with some examples:

#Example 1:
In the below example, I have applied the AVERAGEIF formula to return the average based on the condition of "If the numeric value is less than 10000."



Now see the answer: 







Now let's test the answer with basic AVERAGE function for values less than 10000 and as you can see it is right(3950)























#Example 2:
Here simply I am going to perform with optional arguments as below: The example shows and returns the average number for commission that falls under the criteria of price less than 10000.



















And, the result is 924 as follow:
